VettingGateway: In-house DBS checks

Updated: Jun 15, 2022

Do you truly understand who you're hiring? Checking that candidates are who they claim they are isn't enough. To secure your company, employees, and clients, you must be satisfied that new hires do not pose any threats.

You can rely on VettingGateway to help you check all your new or current candidates by conducting an in-house criminal background check in a quick and simple way, so you don’t have to rely on a third party.

VettingGateway has assisted its client through over 4000 DBS checks, making each one as important as the next. In the last month alone, VettingGateway has processed over 1000 DBS checks, with a large portion of this effort going toward processing new aviation applications to help speed up the recruitment process and address the aviation staffing shortages.

What types of DBS checks are there?

Depending on the requirements, multiple forms of DBS checks are available. A standard DBS check, which is suitable for security employment, will include data of both spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings maintained on the Police National Computer, which are not filtered.

There is also an enhanced DBS check, this is appropriate for a few additional positions, such as taxi licence applications or employees of the Gambling Commission. This certificate will include the same information as a conventional certificate, and an employer can request that one or both of the DBS prohibited lists be verified if the role is eligible. If it is deemed important and should be included in the certificate, the certificate may also include non-conviction material provided by relevant police agencies.

What types of DBS checks do VettingGateway offer?

The Basic DBS Check from VettingGateway provides a certificate which will contain details of convictions and conditional cautions that are considered to be unspent under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. VettingGateways software can show you live applicant progress on the check, so you can see exactly where the check is in the process. Prior to getting the hardcopy certificate, you will also receive an update to confirm if any disqualifying offences appear on the certificate.

To process the application, DBS will need your applicant's address history for the last 5 years, including the dates they lived there, as well as their National Insurance number, passport, and driving licence. All of this is documented in a single online application form that your applicants fill out. This saves a lot of time over manually entering this information.

Once you have this information, VettingGateway will process your DBS and notify you when the check is complete with the press of a button.
